Fractal and Kaleidoscope 1

I felt like fractals today.  Using the Julia World and Kaleidoscope plugins from Mehdi, I made two papers.

Since I made them, I figured I would share them.  They are 3600 x 3600, so you can just use a small fragment. You can get them at 4shared as I haven't decided where I might move to at this time, but I am constantly getting messages about connection problems, how my upload failed and I have to try again.  I had to try 64 times to get this file up (at least after I started counting).  I do not think I will be staying with 4shared.

Stars & Stripes

I had meant to post this kit sooner, but I forgot.  Hopefully people can use it next year.  It is one I made for SNL last year.

Used Gift Wrap

My kid had a birthday two months ago and I thought it would be fun to scan in the used gift wrap.  So, I saved the gift wrap and never got around to doing more than one scan.  This morning, the gift wrap was put into the recycling and I am admitting that I don't have time to scan items.  However, I did scan one piece (and fix the rips), so I am making it available for people to use.

In other news, I am considering different file sharing services.  Recently 4shared has been blacklisted as a malicious site by my firewall.  This is making it very difficult for me to upload to 4shared.  Before I buy a paid account, I am having a look at some other file sharing services.  I am currently debating between Megaupload and Mediafire (but not Rapidshare, because I hate Rapidshare).  I will also consider other services.  Do people have opinions about which file sharing service is better or suggestions of different ones?  Or, should I stay with 4shared?

Funkadelic Papers

The images were so large that I needed to separate out the papers and the elements. Here are the papers for the Funkadelic blog train.

Rainbow Satin Paper

Supplies:

Balls and Bubbles preset (goes into your Presets folder)

Perform steps 1-4 of the Rainbow Fish Batik Paper tutorial as listed below and name the layer Rainbow:

1. Open a new canvas for a 3600 x 3600 paper.

2. Select the rainbow gradient that comes with Paint Shop Pro and fill the canvas.

Angle = 315
Style = Linear
Invert = Checked
Texture = Unchecked

3. Use the Wave deformation (Effects > Distortion Effects > Wave) to streak the paper.

Horizontal displacement
Amplitude = 0
Wavelength = 10

Vertical displacement
Amplitude = 4
Wavelength = 10

Edge mode = Repeat

4. Gaussian blur to soften the waves.

Radius = 50.00

5. Create a new layer and name it Satin.

6. Go to the Balls and Bubbles effect (Effects > Artistic Effects > Balls and Bubbles) and load the HGG_satin preset.

7. Apply the Hot Wax effect (Effects > Artistic Effects > Hot Wax Coating).

8. Apply the Hot Wax effect a second time.

9. Gaussian Blur (Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur) with a 25 radius.

Radius = 25.00

10. Use the Wave deformation (Effects > Distortion Effects > Wave) to create the ripples for the satin.

Horizontal displacement
Amplitude = 0
Wavelength = 10

Vertical displacement
Amplitude = 7
Wavelength = 20

Edge mode = Wrap

11. The ripples are bit too regular. By applying the Deformation Map (Effects > Distortion Effects > Deformation Map), we can make it look more like randomly rippled satin fabric.

Displacement Map = Burnout
Stretch map to fit image = Checked
Blur = 70
2D Surface = Checked
Intensity = 35.00
Rotation = 50
Edge mode = Wrap

12. Move the Rainbow layer on top of the Satin layer.

13. Change the properties of the Rainbow layer so that the blend mode is now Multiply.

The rainbow satin paper is now complete. I have included the paper that I made for the tut in the supplies zip if anyone wants to use it.

Rainbow Fish Batik Paper

Supplies:

Koi Fish brush

1. Open a new canvas for a 3600 x 3600 paper.

2. Select the rainbow gradient that comes with Paint Shop Pro and fill the canvas.

Angle = 315
Style = Linear
Invert = Checked
Texture = Unchecked

3. Use the Wave deformation (Effects > Distortion Effects > Wave) to streak the paper.

Horizontal displacement
Amplitude = 0
Wavelength = 10

Vertical displacement
Amplitude = 4
Wavelength = 10

Edge mode = Repeat

4. Gaussian blur to soften the waves.

Radius = 50.00

5. Create a new layer and call it Grain. Change the blend mode to Soft Light.

6. Go to the materials palette and select black as your color and canvas coarse as your texture.

Color = #000000
Texture = Checked
Texture Pattern = Canvas Coarse
Texture Angle = 0
Scale = 250

7. Fill the new layer with black.

8. Go to the Paint Brush tool and load the HGG Koi brush. Make sure that Load Variance is checked.

9. With Load Variance checked, the brush should have set the parameters on the Brush Variance palette. If not, here are the parameters.

Color blend = Normal, 50
Hue = Normal, 0
Saturation = Normal, 0
Lightness = Normal, 0
Size = Normal, 0
Opacity = Normal, 0
Rotation = Oscillating Fade, 50
Density = Normal, 0
Fade rate = 100
Position jitter = 20
Impression per step = 1
Scale = Unchecked

10. Set the foreground color to white and make sure that the canvas coarse texture is selected.

Color = #FFFFFF
Texture = Checked
Texture Pattern = Canvas Coarse
Texture Angle = 0
Scale = 250

11. Set the background color to the rainbow gradient and make sure that the canvas coarse texture is selected.

Angle = 315
Style = Linear
Invert = Checked
Texture = Checked
Texture Pattern = Canvas Coarse
Texture Angle = 0
Scale = 250

Your materials palette should look like this:

12. Create a new layer. I named it White Brush.

13. Left click on the White Brush layer with the paint brush. This causes you to paint predominantly with the foreground color, but due to the settings of the brush variance, it will blend in the background color. Paint the canvas with fish.

14. Create a new layer. I named it Rainbow Brush.

15. Right click on the Rainbow Brush layer with the paint brush. This causes you to paint predominantly with the background color, but due to the settings of the brush variance, it will blend in the foreground color. This is the opposite of step 12. Paint the canvas with fish.

The Rainbow Fish Batik Paper is now complete. I have included the paper that I made for this tutorial in the supplies zip if anyone wants to use it.

Camping Paper Pack

The July theme of camping was extended until August for Scrap Kit Challenge. This was a good thing since I had almost no time in July and early August to work on scrap items. Don't be surprised if you see popsicle sticks in my kit. There is a reason I wrote a popsicle stick tutorial.

Life is a Banquet Blog Train

I ended up splitting the kit into three separate downloads, mostly because it is impossible to preview papers and elements together. Not everything is shown because I ran out of space on the previews.

This kit comes with:
  • 5 gradient papers
  • 2 parchment (for journaling)
  • 2 parchment with lines (for journaling)
  • 4 paperclips
  • 4 brads
  • 4 tags
  • 9 frames
  • 2 wineglasses
  • 2 champagne glasses
  • 1 champagne bottle
  • 1 ice bucket with 1 bottle
  • 1 ice bucket with 2 bottles
  • 1 grape vine
  • 1 single strawberries
  • 1 double strawberry
  • 1 chef's hat
The kit also comes with three alphas. See the next post for the alphas.

Here are all the links for the blog train:

Spring Orphan

I was making items for a blog train kit and then I remembered that the kit was supposed to be tagger-sized and not scrap-size. So, here are orphaned items from that kit. They are 300 dpi.

Family Tree Papers

Family Tree has 7 papers and 1 overlay. The papers are released under my usual Creative Commons license, but the overlay is commercial use ok. The elements for Family Tree will be posted separately with the Scrap Kit Challenge blog train links. These links will be posted April 3rd.

Girl Power Papers

I have been really sick and not doing much graphics as a result. I'm on the road to recovery now, but I still feel like death warmed over when I get home from work in the evenings.

The theme for Scrap Kit Challenge this month was Girl Power. Here is the itty bitty paper pack that I made for the group mega-kit. I used overlays/greyscale papers by MsBhvin Scraps for the papers with the hearts because I still haven't figured out paper design yet. I don't think that saving papers as jpg is a really good idea because either the papers are really big or there is lossy compression. These overlays were very speckly due to the compression and I ended up spending quite a bit of time fixing the pixels. I'm also not sure of the point of making papers. Why not just make seamless tiles? Most papers appear to be a repeating pattern.

I've floated the idea of doing a blog train at the end of the month after everyone has submitted their kits since we no longer have a website for downloading everything. Hopefully, this will come to pass and non-group members will be able to get everyone's portion of the kits.

I'm running behind on my kit design due to being sick. We were supposed to make fasteners last week. I think I'll just make a big elements pack and an alpha, of course.

Unryu Papers

These unryu papers are made by Humbug Graphics Galore and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 United States License.

The white unryu paper can be used as a mask or an overlay and is licensed separately under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States License. This means it is commercial use ok.

I suppose you can ignore the license, too.

I made the preview using Mura Meister's Stripe of Cylinder and I love it. What a great way to make a rolled paper preview.

Hopping Into the New Year

Scrap Kit Challenge has begun again. This month's theme is Hopping Into the New Year. I haven't quite figured out paper making yet, but this month I tried some CU overlays from Delicious Scraps. In the first week of the challenge, we make papers for the mega-kit and this is eventually what I came up with. I'm not sure I have a coherent idea for this theme yet, but starting with papers is very hard for me. I think I'd rather make elements and then go back and make papers to match. The links for other participants kits are located at the SKC forum.

Poinsettia Gold

This is what I made for day 3 of the Alpha Advent Calendar. I've also included the paper that I used for the preview. Also, I'm wondering if anyone actually uses the scrap that I make. Someone left an anonymous comment stating that my graphics were too small. However, I would probably have to pay for 4shared space soon if I went to bigger sizes. I don't ask for anything for any of my freebies. I don't ask for people to leave comments though I do appreciate them, but you do not need to leave a comment. The fact that something is downloaded and the 4shared counter goes up by one is enough for me. So, I've decided that if I cannot find 12 examples of my digital scrap in use, I am not going to increase size. Even though this is the season of giving, it isn't worth it to me to pay more for my hobby to make a single anonymous person on the internet happier with my freebies. I'm not that much of a philanthropist. Sad, but true. Thus, I'm asking that if you have used my digital scrap, please leave a comment with a link showing it to me. Honestly, I don't expect to see a dozen examples, but then, I'm a realist.

Celebrations Paper Pack Add-On

I don't know that anyone will ever use these papers, but it sure is fun making them. Here is a paper pack add-on for Celebrations.

Celebrations

This month's theme at Scrap Kit Challenge is Celebrations. As part of the challenge, each week of the month members work on a different section of the kit. Week 1 is papers. Week 2 is fasteners, notions and photo items. Week 3 is embellishments. Weeks 1 and 2 exceed 10 Mb. As I hate downloading huge files because I always get disconnected in the middle, here is just weeks 1 and 2 of Celebrations.

This section of the kit includes:

17 papers (not all shown in the preview)
14 ribbons
8 bows
8 brads
8 buttons

Kit

The group kit for Home Baked Traditions can now be downloaded at Scrap Kit Challenge. They will only be up for the month of November. After that, they will be gone.

Home Baked Traditions Add-On

I'm doing this quite backwards as I haven't posted the kit yet, but I'm posting an add-on. We haven't reached Week 3 in Scrap Kit Challenge, so I can't post my completed kit. The three sets of icing letters didn't match the color palette for Home Baked Traditions, so I'm calling this an alpha addon for those of you who might wish to use it anyways. You get Strawberry, Apple, and Pecan fillings. I will post the kit next week. The gingerbread man paper is also in this zip file.

100% Boy

Just starting down the road of digital scraphood though I've been making web graphics since 1996 or 1997. I just joined a group to learn more about digital scrapping and thought I would join the multitudes on the internet offering up their goodies for free. This pseudo-kit comes with an five complete alphas and 4 papers. The alphas and papers are separate zip files. Click the links below to get the zips.
